Pregnant for a weed head

January 18, 2018

Dear Pastor,

This is my first time writing to you and I need your help. I wish you and your family lots of blessings for 2018. I am 20 years old, and my boyfriend is 22 years old. I am pregnant. My boyfriend smokes a lot, and not just cigarettes. He smokes weed. I have two brothers. I am my father's pet. My boyfriend buys the weed every day. He is in Jamaica because he is afraid to go for his interview to go to the US.

When he smokes and drinks, he lies down and sleeps. My mother knows that he smokes. She says that the ganja is going to eat out his brain and that I should stop going out with him. I like him, and I don't want to stop talking to him.

How can I get my boyfriend to stop smoking ganja?

- S.V.

Dear S.V.,

You would like to see your boyfriend stop smoking, and your mother is concerned that you are having an intimate relationship with a ganja smoker. She probably will give her blessing on the relationship if he gives up smoking ganja. But your boyfriend is not willing to stop the smoking. And I have to tell you the truth - unless he is willing to give up ganja, talking to him will be of very little help.

Many young people smoke, but after seeing the negative impact of the weed, sought therapy, and dropped the habit. Whenever your boyfriend comes to realise that the smoking of ganja is not a good habit and that it might affect him, he should not try to stop on his own (although some have done so successfully.) He should consider going to see a professional for help. A psychiatrist would be someone to see and whose advice he should follow.

If your boyfriend has issues that drive him to smoke, he should see a therapist who could help him to deal with them. The bottom line is, this man has to be willing to receive help. If he is, he may contact me at 877-1009 or 929-1667, and I would try and assist him.
