Racquel Jones to record with TC
Following a recent meeting with a major player in the global music industry, emerging
reggae recording artiste Racquel Jones will soon be flying out of Jamaica to record a song with the world famous Thievery Corporation (TC).
Thievery Corporation is an internationally known EDM group that takes a progressive stance against war and exploitative trade agreements. They are also strong supporters of human rights.
For Jones, who also supports similar causes as can be heard in her roots-reggae offerings Remember When and Inna di Gideon, recording with the group represents an exciting phase of her fledgling career.
She leaves the island later this month for Washington DC to meet the members of TC for the first time and to record the song that she hopes will raise awareness about her talent and open more doors.
"I am very excited because I was given the freedom to be myself which coincided with what they wanted," said the 2012 Miss Jamaica Universe contestant. "They wanted a revolutionary hardcore dancehall perspective of what is happening in the world and that is all me."
The opportunity came about following a meeting in December last year between Jones and Kamron Winge of the New York-based War Media Records. The two have known each other for years, but at their last meeting, their professional relationship developed further.
"I did a demo for one of his beats as a prelude for potential projects. He left Jamaica and played the demo for some folks, and that's how TC heard it and decided to reach out for collaboration," said Racquel. "They sent me the track and I was told the energy they wanted me to bring to it, and that it will be on their upcoming album."
