Hugupungeh plans his musical mission
Reggae artiste Hugupungeh is on a mission to use reggae music to restore the moral fabric of the society in Jamaica.
"We need to return to our roots and culture, as black people, we need to rediscover our heritage," Hugupungeh said.
Hugupungeh is a Yoruban word that means 'life'.
He grew up in the community of Macka Tree, St Catherine, in a family with three sisters and one brother.
He attended Tacius Golding High before moving on to the Lluidas Vale Vocational Centre, where he studied electrical installation.
That is where his musical talent was discovered by his friends who heard him singing and encouraged him to pursue music.
He took the stage name Dvoi, and recorded his first professional song at the Kingswell recording studio in Spanish Town.
He has recorded singles such as Jah Protect, Mother Nature Roll Call and his most popular song to date, Good Marijuana.
Six years ago, he added Hugupungeh to his name.
