St Mary, St Thomas to select Festival Queens on Saturday
St Mary and St Thomas will crown their Festival Queen winners this Saturday. The St Mary coronation will take place at the St Mary Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria, and the St Thomas competition will be held at Colonel Cove in Morant Bay. Both shows will begin at 8 p.m.
"The coronations are just the first step on the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen journey," Stephen Davidson, director of marketing & public relations at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), said.
The Miss Jamaica Festival Queen parish coronations will see intelligent, culturally aware, poised and empowered women who are seeking a platform to make their contributions to nation building compete to represent their parish at the national coronation in August.
"We hope that patrons will be out in their numbers to cheer on the well-rounded young woman who will later represent their parish at the national coronation," Davidson said.
Davidson said that the Festival Queen programme has produced some outstanding queens who continue to make a significant contribution to nation building. Some of the past queens include Dr Marsha Barnett, Jennifer 'Jenny-Jenny' Small, Jacinth Hall-Tracey, Dahlia Harris, Krystal Tomlinson, and Kaysia Johnson.
