US-based label releases one drop rhythm

Independent US-based label New York Entertainment Movement Inc is banking on its latest project, the 'Mental Freedom' rhythm, to carry on the proud tradition of one drop reggae projects on the world stage.

The project, released on October 7, features talented acts such as Singer Heights, Guidance, Utan Green, Sophia Squire, and newcomer Balance.

"This rhythm is very dear to my heart because of the age we live in with COVID-19 where mental freedom, freedom of speech, thought and movement is so essential," label president Wayne Gordon said.

"Like Marcus Garvey said, 'We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery, for though others may free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind'. All the songs on this project tackle themes about religion, black empowerment, and inspiration for the poor... . This project is like soul food for black people."

Gordon said that he plans to shoot videos for all the tracks to aid in the promotion. Guidance has one of the standout songs, with Set Your Mind Free, in which he sings about the mental captivity of the black man, proving he has what it takes to compete with the greatest in the game. Utan Green and Sophia Squire team up for the collaboration Give Jah the Praise, where they give the praise to the Most High.

New York Entertainment Movement Inc was formed in 2003 by Gordon and his wife, Lorna Channer-Gordon.
