Reggae artiste Tilibop is concerned about what he believes is a lack of Jamaican content on the island's airwaves.

He said this has created a situation where the majority of the royalties generated in the country are repatriated to overseas-based artistes.

"This is a big concern for me because the money is not being reinvested in the local economy," Tilibop said. "We need more authentic reggae and dancehall music on our airwaves. As a people, we need to take control of what we ah deal with in terms of music, we can't wait for the government to set quotas."

Industry insiders have long complained about inequities in terms of remuneration for local music players. Tilibop believes that the change has to come from within and appealed to the industry insiders to change the culture.

"Look at the level of murders and corruption in Jamaica. We need the 'message music' more than ever, but the people dem ah shun people like me who a forward with the real message," he said. "The radio broadcasters have to turn to some new youths who nah stray from the message and nah allow corruption fi confuse the message of truth and rights and justice."

He has high hopes for his latest single, titled Promise Myself, from his I Am Reggae album.

"The single is an inspirational ode to anyone who has ever had anyone doubt them and who ever overcame great odds," he said.
