A L P H A WOMAN - Shenseea’s stocks continue to rise

Jamaica's eye-catching international artiste, Shenseea, says she is very close to achieving her dreams as an entertainer.

The Loodi hitmaker, speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, said: "I feel like I'm so close to it."

The talented Jamaican artiste was last week announced by Apple Music as the latest addition to its 'Up Next' programme, which is a monthly artiste initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent.

The sole female rapper on Kanye West's Grammy-nominated album DONDA, Shenseea has experienced a meteoric rise in her her stocks over the past few years. She noted, however, that it was not easy getting to the current stage. She recently joined forces with rapper Megan Thee Stallion for the single Lick, which is featured on her debut album Alpha, which drops this Friday. A few days ago, last Thursday, she made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Not surprisingly, the dancehall princess said that things are coming together for her nicely, but noted that there is still work to be done.

"I feel like when you're destined for something, you won't feel like you need to not rest until it's done. So, it's like I just got to go a little bit further, a little bit further. You feel me? Because it's like, there's no way I can give up now when I can actually see around the corner just for me to travel, the distance and go get it. You feel me? Put in the extra work. So, I have no problem because it's like, I've come such a far ways. What else am I going to do? Turn back or sit?" Shenseea told Lowe during the Apple Music 1 chat.

Deserve It, another of the songs on Alpha, was released on Thursday and Shenseea is excited about it.

"I feel like it's perfect. It's like, give you bubble gum, butterflies, kid; makes you feel like a kid if you're not a kid; colourful, good energy. It's just a vibe," Sheneeea said.

"The song is literally about a vibe. I feel like I just unlocked a different side of my voice, which is more girlier, kid type, because I've never done a song like this, to be honest. I've never done something like that. But I feel like that's why I can't stop listening to it. It's so new to hear from myself. And on top of it, it's a good sound," the dancehall princess said.

She also said that Alpha will showcase her versatility, adding that it showcases her "experimenting" and exploring new sounds.

"I feel like what I'm doing now with this album is like, I'm going to put it out there and then I'm going to see people reaction. If they react to everything, then trust me, they beat. Shoot, you going to have to put me in every single category, which is my aim. I want them to know that I'm versatile and also accept it. Not wanting me to stick to one genre or one style of music," said Shenseea.
