Emerging dancehall artiste J Mulaj has been causing ears to perk up with her single, Early Mawnin, which was released on the Mineral Boss Records label late last year.

"My inspiration for that song was getting some good early mawnin sex and the beat gave me more inspiration and it fit right in with my own sexual expressions," said the artiste, whose given name is Ginelle James. Given the buzz the single is getting on local mixtapes, the 22-year-old will be releasing a video for it on April 15.

J Mulaj grew up in Trelawny where she attended Cedric Titus High School before migrating to Brooklyn in 2015 at the age of 15. Her father is Rastafarian reggae artiste Samuel I and his career piqued her interest in music. She recorded her first single No Waste Man in 2018. She has continued to work on her craft, fine-tuning what she dubbed her 'Mulajestic style' which is primarily based on her emotions.

"I am passionate about my delivery when I am recording any song. I am most excited when I find different techniques to be creative while writing. I can contribute just by being my authentic self," she said. J Mulaj writes her own lyrics and has recorded singles with MBR Production, Focus Muzik Production, which is run by her brother, and Goalmind Production.

"My philosophy is I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am one of none. I am J Mulaj and my music will speak for itself. I have too much to say and people can relate," she said.
