Ricky D Lova goes old school on new single
Singjay Ricky D Lova is among those persons in the dancehall space who are clamouring for the 'good old days' of rub-a-dub.
Based in South Florida, he recently launched the Little Lane rhythm compilation album. It carries an old-school sound reminiscent of the 1980s and 1990s, when it was hip to dance with your partner.
"I want to bring back di dance in dancehall 'cause it get boring. There's no dancing riddims; is pare hip hop di youths dem a mek," he said.
There are 10 songs on the rhythm, including Time Up by Ricky D Lova, Gwaan So from Milton Blake, and Naked outa Road, done by J R Blessington.
Blake and Blessington are also on Should Have Known Better, Ricky D Lova's previous project.
Ricky D Lova grew up in Majesty Gardens, a gritty inner-city community that produced acts like his older brother, Trinity, who was one of the top deejays from the 1970s, and roots-reggae group The Meditations.
Ricky D Lova followed his brother's footsteps and became an artiste in the 1980s. He made his production debut in the late 1990s with the Mongrel compilation album.
