Miguel Wealthy speaks out against domestic violence

A famous poet once wrote ' love that is not madness is not love'. However, Hewitt Entertainment recording artiste Miguel Wealthy believes that passion and love need to be tempered.

That is why he is tackling the domestic violence problem in Jamaica with the single Mad Man.

The song sets out the different scenarios which come up in struggling relationships when men determine that they can't let a woman go.

"A lot of the killings and violence that happen here is just sheer madness bredda," Miguel Wealthy said. "I don't condone domestic violence and there must be a better way to solve interpersonal conflicts. Too often, you see the same scenario of toxic relationships where no one intervenes to be a voice of reason to stop these things before they escalate. We need to take a personal look at ourselves and nation. Some of the man dem a confuse love with ownership, dem a mad man."

He plans to shoot a video for the song in April.

It has been a busy year for Miguel Wealthy, who is from May Pen, Clarendon, with the release of songs such as Mek Wi Dance and Every Gal Inna the Business.

He is scheduled to release an EP, Mental Orgasm, on April 20.

Miguel Wealthy attended Vere Technical High School, balancing schoolwork and his love for music. At age 17, his father entrusted him with the responsibility of managing his transportation company, but music remained his first love. He began to pursue music, using the stage name Excellence.

In 2005 he released his first single, Love Mi Wen Mi Dirty, which was produced by Platinum Records in Guyana. That led him to tour within the Caribbean, Europe and the US. In 2012 he changed his name to Miguel Wealthy.
