Honormosity to tie the knot
The name Layton 'Honormosity' Simms has been in the media leading up to and since the 40th staging of Sting, however, the biggest show for him this year will be Friday, December 29, when he and his fiancee, Nicolette Spencer, tie the knot.
Their one-year romance defies geographical and time boundaries. Spencer, a 38-year-old English teacher living in Japan for more than 12 years, unexpectedly found her life partner during a visit to a friend's home. Little did she know that Simms, would become the love of her life.
"We met last year in December at a mutual friend's home, we exchanged information and began communicating," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.
"We never stopped talking every day," she shared. Juggling time zones and work commitments, they carved out moments to bond over the phone, building a foundation for a deep and meaningful connection.
"Within three to four months of talking, we decided to get married because we knew what we wanted and we knew what we saw in each other. We both wanted to settle down and we both wanted the same things, so we took it from there and here we are," Spencer added.
"We were at peace with each other from the beginning. I found perfect peace with him as he had found perfect peace in me, and it's for the first time because I have not been dating for a long time. I have been waiting because I am a Christian," she highlighted. "Talking to him immediately I knew that he was my husband so it didn't take long and he knew that I was his wife."
Excitement is also radiating from Simms as he looks forward to the wedding, unfazed by concerns about his career post-marriage.
"I'm feeling excited and I can't wait. Everything is up and running," he exclaimed. "I think Japan will be my new residence and whenever I have any shows or bookings, I will travel from there. Even so we can do music from anywhere in the world with the digital space."
For Spencer, Simms' spiritual nature became a cornerstone of their relationship, providing a sense of grounding. She said that sometimes, she has a "loud" personality compared to his calm demeanour. Addressing the brawl in which Simms was involved at Sting, Spencer dismissed any concerns, asserting that his calm nature prevails.
"I am the one who is not that calm, I am the loud one and he would calm me right down. If you don't know him personally then you wouldn't know that he is really calm," she said. Spencer described the incident as a one-off situation and expressed confidence that it won't overshadow their wedding plans.
"We always pray together during the night time and we ask God to cover us. [Nothing would stop it] unless it was the plan of God, and as you can see it's not the plan of God because we are going through with our wedding and nothing can stop it." She said that they were both looking forward to his performance at Sting, even rehearsing with each other how he was going to sing or clash the other artistes.
The intimate wedding ceremony will be attended by approximately 40 close friends and relatives.
