Producer tells her story on new album

Songwriter and executive producer Paulette Trowers has transformed her personal experiences into How Yuh Know Mi, a 10-track album performed by reggae singer Harmonique.

Trowers said she knew from the beginning that she needed a female vocalist capable of interpreting the project’s wide emotional range.

“I asked God for that person,” she said. “Then I heard Harmonique’s voice as part of the harmony on a Jamaica Festival song that reached the Top 30, and something clicked.” After sending Harmonique the lyrics to Heart Like a Feather, Trowers needed only a few words to recognise that she had found the right singer.

“There was strength, warmth and emotion in her voice, but also something that felt authentic,” she explained. “Harmonique could interpret the songs and make them believable.”

Subtitled A Paulette Trowers Musical Story — Season 1, the album explores faith, identity, motherhood, Jamaica, womanhood, relationships, self-worth, healing and survival.

“The album is not fiction dressed up as autobiography,” Trowers said. “My mother, my faith, Jamaica, womanhood, relationships, music, healing, narrow escapes and survival are all there.”
