In recent years there has been a steady growth in the health and fitness industry; persons wanting to live long and healthy. Research has shown the only way to increase the chances of quality and longevity of life is to eat properly, exercise often and rest.

Rest is sometimes undervalued, however it is an important element in maintaining good health. A lot of people have lifestyles where we work more than one job or put in vast amounts of overtime in order to make ends meet. Our bodies are then demanded to work more, leaving us with less time to rest. Sleep is responsible for the repair of our blood vessels and heart. Sleep also helps our muscles to grow and recover, along with boosting your mood making you feel better. Lack of sleep can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke.

Eating the right food at the right time can drastically help with your health and also assist with weight management. In Jamaica we tend to consume a lot of starchy carbohydrates with most meals (e.g. rice, dumplings and bread). This can lead to excessive weight gain which can cause serious health issues over time.

Exercise is a final piece to the puzzle. Everyone should do at least 20 minutes of exercise per day. As little as walking up a hill can do the body a wealth of good. From sweating we clear our pores and help our bodies rid it of harmful toxins as well as activating our muscles in movement. Finally the benefits of exercise for the heart and lungs allow them to operate more efficiently leaving you with a better quality of life.
