Cop on robbery rap remanded

A police constable, who allegedly robbed a businesswoman of a substantial amount of money, was remanded when he appeared in the Portland Parish Court yesterday.

Ramon Walker, 31, who is attached to the St Thomas Police Division, was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.

According to a police report, on July 16 at about 4 a.m., a businesswoman closed her bar after hosting a round robin in the east Portland community of Manchioneal.

The report further indicates that the businesswoman headed home, but upon her arrival she was pounced upon by three armed men and was robbed of more than $700,000.

Three other persons who were in the car with the business operator at the time were physically assaulted. The armed men fled the scene.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Walker.
