Teen, child attempt to rob cop

A child and a machete wielding teen, who allegedly conspired and attempted to rob a man who later turned out to be a cop, were dragged before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

The teen pleaded not guilty, while the child, who was dressed in uniform, did not enter a plea.

The court heard that on Wednesday, September 19, at about 4:50 p.m., the policeman was walking along Water Lane in downtown Kingston when he was approached by the two who begged him for $100.

When the request was met, allegations are that the teen brandished a machete and attempted to use it on the policeman, who then pulled his firearm.

The court heard that both the teen and the child were cautioned and handcuffed before being brought to the police station.

The court also heard that when cautioned, the teen said:" Brown man, please please, nuh shoot me. Me never did a go do anything."

The child reportedly said: "Sir, me never want to do it. A his (the teen's) plan."

Both are to return to court on November 2. The teen was further remanded.
