Obeah man says spirits stopping some visa applications

Longtime obeah man Ruben Williams is cautioning Jamaicans living overseas to intervene in the processing of their papers before their immigration situations become critical, claiming that spiritual restrictions can sometimes cause delays.

“Some people process get drawn out because dem wait too long, dem miss important deadlines or dem nuh get the right information at the right time, because dem have a spirit wid them weh a hold them back. If yuh try and try and it nah work out, yuh haffi seek help fi see why it nah work out,” Williams said.

Williams opined that some applicants face “old time days destruction” that can affect the timing and outcome of their journeys.

“A nuh luck alone, the spirit and timing play a part too. If you fi walk go point ‘A’ to ‘B’ and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) ago deh there or any trouble fi reach you, the spirit ago influence you fi go a different route or go a different time,” he said. “Time very important when it come on to spirit work. Two people can apply fi a visa and one get it and the next one nuh get it, a nuh coincidence.”

The St Mary obeah man expressed that he has seen situations where he believes a person’s spiritual circumstances influenced the outcome of a visa interview.

“The man weh a work wid me haffi get it because him a carry a spirit wid him weh mek the person weh ago interview him ago be very calm and in a good mood, so that’s how him get it,” he said.

Williams said some people may also unknowingly carry what he described as “bad omen or bad luck”, which he believes can interfere with their progress.

“As them reach a embassy, the person fi do interview get miserable and intolerant, so him tell you fi come back one next time. Him just want get rid a you. That’s why you haffi get good spirit fi walk wid you so people favour you,” Williams told THE STAR.

With more than two decades of doing spiritual work, Williams said people getting stuck in their green card processing is not new, but he believes the problem has become more prevalent now.

“A nuff time people a try a try and it nah work and them come to me and mi fix dem up and dem carry the whole family go and get them visa or them green card,” he said. Williams disclosed that most of the people seeking his assistance are from the US, which has a turbulent immigration enforcement climate currently.

“Most a them a from the US because a how ICE a gwaan now, and mi do the work and them get through. Even people from Canada will have issues and call me and when them get through a them realise seh it’s not a joke thing.”

Williams said people should act before their situations reach the point where deportation becomes imminent.

“When you sit down too long and wait and pray nothing happens. You have to recognise when it is time fi move and take action.”
