October 06, 2026

A 35-year-old motorcyclist was burned to death after his bike erupted in flames during a collision in the Bog Walk Gorge, St Catherine, yesterday.

Dead is Jason Johnson, of Portmore Villa, St Catherine.

Police reports are that about 3:55 p.m. on October 4, Johnson was riding a Zamco GG150 motorcycle towards Spanish Town with a pillion aboard.

On reaching a section of the roadway near Rio Village, Johnson reportedly attempted to overtake a line of traffic.

However, during the manoeuvre, the motorcycle reportedly collided with a motorcar before making contact with the right rear wheel of a trailer attached to an International motor truck travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact sent the motorcycle into flames.

The pillion reportedly managed to jump from the burning motorcycle, escaping with injuries.

He was assisted to the Linstead Hospital for treatment.

Johnson was not as fortunate.

He suffered several fractured limbs and severe burns to his body in the crash.

Members of the Linstead Fire Department carried out cooling-down operations at the scene before Johnson was taken to the Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the International motor truck was warned for prosecution and issued a notice.

The Bog Walk Traffic Department is investigating the crash.
