SBC quarter-final matches postponed

The quarter-finals of the National Integrity Action (NIA) Southern Conference Basketball League, which were set to get under way tomorrow have been postponed until Thursday, July 14.

In a release yesterday president of the Southern Basketball Conference (SBC), Calvin Martin, said the official launch of the partnership between the NIA and the SBC will also be held on that day.

The delay to the second round of play-off games is due to a protest from Upper Room Church regarding their game against Portmore Flames, while sponsor NIA plans to give additional support for the league.

Meanwhile the second-to-last quarter-final spot was taken by Exed Heats after a convincing 63-48 win over Swift Sons at the Tony Spaulding Complex on Monday, for a 2-1 series win. Cordell Grant led the way for the students with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Heats led the game from the start and were ahead 33-26 at half-time. They extended their lead from seven to eleven at the end of the third quarter, before taking the final stanza 14-10 for a convincing 15 points victory.

Heats will no oppose the JDF in the quarter-finals.

The other quarter-final games will see number one seed Pembroke Hall facing G.C.Foster, Spanish Town Spartan versus Real Lions and defending champions Arnett Rockers against the winners of the Upper Room Church/ Portmore Flames tie.
