Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Communications and Marketing Manager Garth Williams says the body will

undergo what he describes as an 'aggressive' drive to increase its social media presence.

Williams, who was speaking at an Editors Forum hosted by The Gleaner at its headquarters on North Street, Kingston, yesterday, said that the JCA's board has partnered with a digital marketing company, which he says will revamp and renew the association's digital footprint (presence and trail of data on the Internet).

"Where we are in our online space is nothing to call home about," Williams told STAR Sports. "But it is something that the president (Wilford 'Billy' Heaven) has recognised and has taken the right steps to address. This is where my role is necessary."

Williams said that this means providing an opportunity for existing and potential sponsors to use the JCA's digital platforms to reach as many Jamaicans as possible.

"We provide very regular updates on cricketing matters of all sorts - 90% Jamaican cricket but also regional and international," he said. "We get very good interactions. People are liking, people are sharing, people are asking questions, and there are conversations being had."




Williams said that the JCA's Facebook page and YouTube channel will be providing a live stream of the Jamaica Scorpions' Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament game against the Barbados Pride from the Three Ws Oval in Cave Hill, Barbados, which starts tomorrow.

But Williams also plans to use the media to give local cricketers more of a public presence, where they can become more relatable personalities with the public.

"It's about compelling storytelling," Williams said. "You may not have known about the Under-19 girls, and that's intentional because I want to be able to see them over a period of time and be able to build a story around a few of them. These are young ladies from different circumstances and backgrounds with stories to tell. We want to be able to share those stories and be able to say, 'Oh, I can do it too!'"

The JCA's Instagram page has 988 followers, and its Twitter page has 346, while its Facebook page has 5,910 likes and 5,942 followers.
