Western Confed semi-finals set - Sandals South Coast miss out
Sandals South Coast FC, who were last season relegated from the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) after just one season, missed out on a chance of an immediate return to top-flight football after finishing outside the semi-final spots in the JFF/Charley's JB Rum Super League.
On Sunday, Sandals went into their game against Hopewell United needing in a win and hoping for a Falmouth United loss to Granville FC.
However, their chance of returning to the RSPL next season disappeared after going down 2-1, despite taking the lead at the Orchard Sports Complex.
Dervin Campbell's 41st-minute strike sparked hope, but Michael McLeod (45) and Shivarine Brown (65) secured a semi-final spot for the Hanover team.
Sandals finished the regular season in sixth place on the 12-team table with 26 points.
This was also fuelled by them losing head coach Aaron 'Wild Boy' Lawrence who brought the Westmoreland based team to the Premier League two seasons ago, midway the season. Lawrence has taken up a coaching stint in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
In the other game on Sunday, Falmouth United recorded a 2-0 victory over Granville at the Elleston Wakeland Centre to secure their final semi-final spot.
Allan Ottey (fourth minute)and Ricardo James (65th) were the goalscorers for Falmouth.
Last Saturday, table toppers Faulkland thrashed Grand Palladium 7-0 and Wadadah came from behind to win 2-1 over Somerton FC.
An undefeated Faulkland FC finished top of the table with 42 points from 16 games, ahead of mid-season champions Wadadah (35), Hopewell (31) and Falmouth (30) to close out semi-finals spots.
The doubleheader semi-finals set for Sunday, April 21, at Jarrett Park, will see two teams grabbing spots in the RSPL play-offs as two spots are allocated to the Western Confederation this season.
In the early kick-off at 4 p.m., Wadadah will take on Hopewell, while the 6 p.m. game will see the hugely anticipated Faulkland versus Falmouth match, which features the only teams to have scored 30 goals this season.
