Innswood Old Boys top Rovman Powell T20 finale

After weeks of electrifying cricket across St Catherine, the Rovman Powell T20 competition came to an exciting end at Port Esquivel on Sunday, with Innswood Old Boys winning the grand finale.

Old Harbour Cricket Club secured a respectable third-place finish in the play-off.

With Powell in attendance to watch the grand finale, Innswood Old Boys rose to the occasion, defeating Portsmouth Cricket Club by 24 runs to claim the title.

Asked to take first strike, Innswood set a challenging total of 148-9 in their 20 overs.

West Indies and Jamaican batter Kirk McKenzie delivered a clutch performance on the local stage, top-scoring with a well-paced 55 off 44 balls.

He was supported by former national youth player Adrian Weir, who smashed a quickfire 47 off 31 deliveries.

Portsmouth’s bowlers fought valiantly to keep the target in check, with all-rounder Jamie Hay (three for 24) and national leg-spinner Tamarie Redwood (two for 25) leading the attack.

Defending their title hopes, Innswood’s bowlers applied relentless pressure from the start of Portsmouth’s chase.

Damion Ebanks was the standout performer, tearing through the top order to finish with remarkable figures of three for 12.

Despite a fighting 27 from David Dewar and a brisk 24 from Javardi Francis, Portsmouth could never quite match the required run rate.

Ralique Thomas (two for 21) and Brad Barnes (two for 24) mopped up the tail as Portsmouth were restricted to 124-9, sparking wild celebrations for Innswood Old Boys as they were crowned champions.

Clinical display

In the third place play-off, Old Harbour Cricket Club put on a clinical display to defeat National Water Commission (NWC) by 17 runs.

Batting first in a contest reduced to 13 overs, Old Harbour posted a highly competitive 109-5, thanks to a spectacular innings from Tieno Osbourne, who blasted 61 runs off just 31 balls.

The NWC bowling attack, led by Oneil Wright’s exceptional three for 18, did well to prevent further damage and give their team a fighting chance.

However, NWC’s chase fell short despite a valiant all-round effort from Wright, who backed up his bowling heroics with a top score of 34 off 31 balls.

Old Harbour’s bowlers kept their composure and maintained a tight line, with national pacer Gordon Bryan starring with figures of two for 14.

Romone Francis (one for 17) also chipped in as NWC finished their 13 overs at 92-4, handing Old Harbour the 17-run victory.
