Pregnant for a foreigner after a one-night stand

August 02, 2016

Dear Pastor,

I am 21 years old and I am in trouble. I was working in St Ann where I met a man who told me that he was vacationing with his girlfriend. I asked him why his girlfriend wasn't with him and he said that she was feeling tired because they were touring.

He spoke with a deep accent, so I didn't question whether he was telling the truth. It was about 9: 30 p.m. when I met him. He said that he would take me for a drink so I should tell the other girls they can go.

When I went to talk to my friends, they said that he looks like somebody I can trust and if anything is going wrong, I should call them.

He asked me if I knew any club we could go to and I told him yes. We went to the club and had a few drinks. When it was about 1 a.m., I told him that we should leave, but he didn't want to.

I had to go to the bathroom and so left my phone on the chair. This man went in my phone and took out the chip. He convinced me to spend the rest of the night with him.

I heard when he told somebody on the phone that he is in good hands and that he will not be coming home.

We slept at a hotel. We had sex. When I woke up at about six in the morning, he was gone. He left J$2,000 on the table for me. I didn't have a number for him.

One of the girls that I was with that night, told my boyfriend that I slept with another man. I told him that it was not true. My boyfriend beat me. I couldn't even fight back, because I was guilty.

Now I am pregnant and my boyfriend is saying it is for the man. This man did not use a condom. I don't know what to do.

My boyfriend says that I smell awful. I've tried to get this smell off me. It is not coming from my vagina. I asked my friends if I have a bad odour and they said no.

I don't know how to find this man. He did not tell me which hotel he and his girlfriend were staying.

Now I am carrying a belly. I know that this belly was given to me by him. Please, Pastor, help me.

Dear C.S.,

You are a simple girl. When I first started reading your letter, I thought you might be a prostitute, but perhaps you are not. But what I do know for sure is that you are simple. Prostitutes are smarter.

This man fooled you with his deep accent. You were probably hoping to get lots of money from him. Instead you gave him sex and he gave you J$2,000.

You are still fortunate that you got some cash from this man. But now you are pregnant and your boyfriend refuses to accept paternity; he is quite correct.

However, he should not have beaten you. What he probably should have done was to end the relationship with you.

How can you not know a man, meeting him for the first time, and have unprotected sex with him?

I hope you have gone to the doctor. If you haven't, you need to go now and check yourself out. I hope this man has not gone away with the idea that all Jamaican women are as easy and simple as you.

If he is responsible for getting you pregnant and you carry the pregnancy, he would have left a child behind and that child will grow up wondering who his biological father is; how sad.
