Friend's man tried to sleep with me

Dear Pastor,

I'm 24 years old and I am having a problem. I have a friend and we have been best friends since sixth grade. I went to live with her for a year, and her boyfriend at the time (now her husband) tried to have sex with me one night. She used to do companion work, where she would leave at 11:30 at nights and not return home until 8 in the mornings.

One night when she left, I was asleep and I felt like someone was touching me. I jumped up and saw my friend's boyfriend naked. I tried to run him out of the room, but he wouldn't leave. He started to tell me how much he wants me and he always liked me, and was trying to force himself on to me. Finally, I pushed him off and told him to get out of my room. He left, and I closed my door.

When she came home, I wanted to tell her what happened, but she was so happy with him that I didn't want her to think that I didn't want her to be happy.

Since then, I've moved into my own place and I don't speak to her husband. She asked me why, and I told her that I just don't want to talk to him. She asked me if it was something that he did, and I brushed it off by saying he talks too much.

She has been married to him now for six months and they have a two-month-old daughter who is my goddaughter. I don't want her to be unhappy, but at the same time I want her to know what her husband is capable of doing.

I want to know if I should I tell her, or should I leave it alone because nothing happened as far as him having sex with me - it's just the touching that he did without my consent. I don't want to lose her as my friend. I'll wait for your fatherly advice.

Dear D.S.,

I would not encourage you to tell your girlfriend about the incident. The question is, what would be your purpose in telling her now? If you were to do so now, she may believe that you are seeking to destroy her marriage. I know for sure you will destroy the friendship that you have had with her over the many years.

This man knows that you are not easy to get. He would never attempt to have sex with you again. So, say nothing to his wife and keep out of this man's way.
