My co-worker is trying to get me fired

Dear Pastor,

I am 23 years old, and I am having a fight at my workplace. From the time I came here to work, the manager's secretary has shown a dislike for me. She has told a lot of lies on me, and my supervisor has always had to be defending me. My supervisor is a male. I haven't done this woman anything, but after working here for a month, I found out that she likes the boss and she has been spreading my name, saying that the boss and I have something going.

The boss had a meeting with all the workers to try clear up this thing. He said his wife is upset with him because someone called his wife and told her that he is having an affair with one of his workers. Everybody knew that the only person who would do that is his secretary. She is not very competent. She was ill for more than a week, and I had to do her work, and the boss paid me extra for what I did and commented that I am efficient. The other workers told her when she came back to work what the boss said.

I am so frustrated. I told my boyfriend that I am going to leave, and he told me that I am crazy. My supervisor told me that I am not the first girl to come and work there and they lie on her. She is not good-looking and I am very pretty, so she feels threatened.

My boss' wife called me while I was at home and questioned me about her husband. She asked me not to tell my boss that she called. But, Pastor, I felt that I had to tell him. He said that he would not say anything to his wife. I asked him whether his wife trusts him and he said it was not a matter of trust, but she does not want his name to be dragged in the mud.

Do you think I should leave this job? She is the only one at the workplace who gives me trouble. Please, give me your advice.

Dear L.T.,

I would suggest that you stay in your job. If this girl continues to give trouble at the workplace, I am sure that she would be fired. The workers know the type of person she is, so they are going to stand with you and give you moral support. Make sure you are not guilty of whatever accusation she raises against you. Make sure you do your work well.

One has to be prepared for the worst at the workplace. Workers sometimes juggle for positions, and they lie on each other. Make sure that you are not guilty of any wrong. And please, do not leave your job. Whatever you are to do, do it well. Be respectful to the other workers, even the one who is a troublemaker.
