Man set on fire during Denham Town protest

A man was reportedly set on fire after allegedly refusing to participate in a protest in Denham Town on Saturday, as tensions escalated following the fatal police shooting of reputed One A Way Gang leader Amani “Bling Dawg” Malcolm.

The injured man was taken to Kingston Public Hospital, while detectives are working to establish his identity and the extent of his injuries.

Police have named Omarley Dennie, otherwise called “Neily Blacks”, whom they identify as a senior member of the One A Way Gang, as a person of interest in connection with the incident.

A Glock 26 pistol containing five 9mm rounds was reportedly recovered at the scene.

A civilian was also shot and injured and taken to hospital. The circumstances surrounding that shooting are being investigated.

The matter has been reported to INDECOM.

Tensions have risen in Denham Town following Malcolm's death, with residents mounting roadblocks and a vehicle being set ablaze along North Street during Saturday's protests.

Malcolm, 26, was shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with police at the intersection of North Street and Pink Lane about 10:40 p.m. Friday.
