Errol Greene to lead reform at UHWI
Veteran public servant Errol Greene has assumed the role of reform implementation executive at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
The appointment took effect yesterday. In this role, Greene will be tasked to manage the implementation of the UHWI rehabilitation project by establishing the appropriate project management office and system for the effective and efficient implementation of the project. In collaboration with the hospital’s board of management and The University of the West Indies, Greene will also lead the implementation of the recommendations of the Auditor General’s Report of December 2025 and of the UHWI Institutional Review Committee (Mitchell) Report of April this year.
Greene assumes this role having previously served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health and Wellness and as regional director of the largest health authority, the South East Regional Health Authority, which oversees health services in Kingston and St Andrew, St Thomas and St Catherine. He was also a former regional director for the Western Regional Health Authority and a former CEO of the Kingston Public Hospital. Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said the appointment is an important step in strengthening accountability, improving operational efficiency and ensuring the effective implementation of the hospital’s rehabilitation project.
“We are confident that Mr Greene’s leadership and institutional knowledge will help to drive the necessary changes to support improved governance, strengthen service delivery and position UHWI to better serve the people of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean,” he said.
Prior to his sojourn in public health, Greene served as town clerk of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation and also worked in the St Thomas Municipal Corporation. Chairman of the UHWI Board of Management, Patrick Hylton, said Greene brings considerable experience in public sector management and healthcare administration, which will be invaluable in advancing the reform programme and addressing the recommendations arising from the relevant reviews.
