Can't forgive a terrible woman

Dear E.C.,

You will always be grateful to your uncle. That is how relatives should help one another. Your uncle is a good man, but he married a selfish woman. She didn't believe in sharing what she had.

I can imagine how difficult it was to live under the same roof with this woman. However, your uncle was a wise man. He didn't just accept everything she said. I am sure he is proud of you.

Now, I want to encourage you that if it is possible, whenever she asks you for help, give it to her. Don't hold back when you can afford to help.

Perhaps she thought you wouldn't have done well and by now you would have six children, all out of wedlock, but that has not happened.

So, she is proud to call you her daughter. You are no more the stupid, ugly girl from country. Miss Lou would say, "Clap yourself."

I agree with your husband - meet with her. Make sure that your uncle is present and talk about what you had to endure living at her house. Free up your mind. Perhaps that is the first step in learning to forgive her.
