Is family is cursed?

Dear Pastor,

I have been a Christian for more than 25 years and I can say to you that it has not been an easy road. I have gone through so many ups and downs and I have felt like giving up. I got married early because I didn't want to live in sin. But soon after I got married, my husband got a girl pregnant. He said that the child wasn't his, but the test shows that it was his.

I got fired from my job and my husband's salary could not take care of all the bills. It was problems all around. I became so sad, and there were those who couldn't understand why, as a Christian, I was going through these problems.

My husband stopped attending church. We had to even sell our car to get money to pay our bills. I went overseas to work for a while but couldn't stand the separation from my family; loneliness was killing me. I could not stay away for long. Sometimes when I go to church I hear some wonderful testimonies. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong or if my husband is still cheating and my family is cursed.

I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

R.H.

Dear R.H.,

Some Christians are told that in the Christian journey, everything is smooth and just lovely. And if one is having problems, he should just pray and everything will be okay. That is not taught in the Bible.

Christians are not immune from

trouble. There are times Christians will suffer and it is not because they have sinned. According to 1 Peter 1:6-7, believers may face trials and tribulations in this world, and these may not be so because of their over doings or wickedness.

The Apostle says to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:12 "Yes and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution". You are not having life easy right now, but that is not as a result of personal sins. So please, perish that thought. Great men of God have had to suffer trials, so don't give up on God at all.
