My daughter says I'm not her dad

Dear Pastor,

I promised my daughter a nice touch screen phone after she had taken her Grade Six Achievement Test exams and all the thanks I got from her was some very strange texts saying that I am not her real father.

She also said that I think that I am her father, but I am not. She also said that she has her real father. I asked her who is her real father but up to now, I have not got an answer.

She called me on Sunday and told me that she did not send the texts; it was her sister who did so and from her sister was two years old, she did not like me.

I would like to know what you would say about this problem.

I can imagine how disturbed you feel. I am assuming that you have supported this child believing that she is your biological daughter and to be told now that she isn't.

She has advised you that she did not send you the texts. I doubt very much that from the time her sister was two she did not like you, so she sent you texts messages that would upset you.

It is likely that she heard from someone in the family that you are probably not the father of this young girl you believe is your daughter.

Whatever might be the case, I believe that this is something you should talk to her mother about and that you should insist that a paternity test should be done to ascertain the truth.

In the meantime, try not to allow what you heard to make you feel depressed. Whether or not you are her biological father, if you have tried your best in supporting her, give God thanks for the wonderful opportunity.

When this young woman grows up, she will thank you for what you did for her.
