Lil Kish shows confidence with ‘Rasta Girl’
Rising music star Lil Kish is showing confidence and comfort in her own skin in her latest single, Rasta Girl.
"I wrote this song because of the confidence I have in myself and it's also for other young Rasta girls to be proud of their culture," she explained. She was also inspired by societal issues, including the case where a Rastafarian teen said she was trimmed by a policewoman while she was in lock-up.
"I was so disappointed about the situation because discrimination against Rastas has been going on for years and I need it to stop because Rastafari is a part of our culture," Lil Kish said.
Since the song's release, the singer has received an overwhelming amount of support and kudos, with listeners commending her for her delivery and message. The official music video, directed by Chaser Production Visuals, premiered on August 6. The video was shot in various locations such as Alligator Pond, Mandeville Golf Course and recording artiste Jah Mason's house in St Elizabeth.
The young singer, at only 11 years old, is already establishing her place in Jamaica's musical landscape, having hit the scene less than a year ago with her debut single Corona. Since then, she has released other songs such as Living The Life and Woman Violence. Just getting started, the best is yet to come for Lil Kish.
"I just want to say to all the young people in the world, aim high and reach for the stars," she stated.
With much more music in the pipeline, the Mandeville native, whose given name is Tajana Gardener, has embarked on another exciting new journey - high school.
"I am excited to attend Belair High School and I know I am going to be a top student at that institution," she said confidently.
