Tyler Perry has ruled out marriage

Why Did We Get Married? director Tyler Perry has given a firm “nope” to getting hitched in the future, saying he wants to avoid divorce and the hefty costs that come with separation.

Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Monday, Perry, 57, explained to Hudson: “It’s not the marriage that bothers me, it’s the divorce.

“Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So I’m good just being free.”

Even Hudson’s offer to sing at his wedding failed to change The Oval actor’s mind.

He added: “What makes me think about marriage is, ‘You’re no good, heartbreaker. You’re a liar. You’re a cheat. I don’t know why I let you do these things to me.’

“That’s what I think about.”

Perry’s age and plans to slow down have also influenced his decision to never walk down the aisle.

Speaking on NBC’s Today with Jenna + Sheinelle that Monday, he said: “When I wrote the first [Why Did I Get Married Again? movie], I thought, ‘You know, marriage might be a good idea at some point.’ But at this age, that’s not a good idea for me.

“So, no, there won’t be any marriage for me.”

Perry joked that “watching my own movie” put him off tying the knot.

The billionaire plans to swap the US for Puerto Rico next year with his 11-year-old son Aman, whom Perry has with his 40-year-old ex-partner, film-maker Gelila Bekele, whom he never married.

Asked if he ever plans to “chill out” in his career, Perry said: “Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot.”

The Sistas creator admitted that he is more aware of his own age than ever before, and feels it’s “time to slow down a bit” in his working life.

He explained: “Getting older [inspired this]. It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son, and just take it all in.”

Boy George has claimed Ed Sheeran was right to get “rid” of Macklemore from his tour.

The 65-year-old pop star shared a rant on social media after being tricked into thinking an old clip of the singer-songwriter performing solo was a new video following the rapper’s departure from his US shows.

He wrote on X: “I thought he was wrong not to speak out against the rapper hijacking his shows, but he got rid of him and a bunch of spineless rats followed.

“All the usual subjects have popped up on TV to have their say. Each one more dumb than the last.”

Sheeran’s Loop tour has been mired in controversy since Macklemore, 43, used his opening slot at a New Jersey gig earlier this month to lend his support to the people of Palestine. He then revealed on Monday that he had subsequently been removed from the line-up following an alleged backlash from venue owners. After Macklemore was dropped from the tour, other support acts, including Finneas, Lukas Graham and Aaron Rowe, as well as Sheeran’s touring band Beoga, announced they were also stepping away and would no longer perform at any of the concerts.

Macklemore has stated that he had shared some “difficult conversations” with his “friend” Sheeran in recent days, but insisted he doesn’t want to “tear down” the star’s character. The Thrift Shop hitmaker also claimed Robert Kraft – the owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium – left Sheeran in a “f*** up position” in terms of his position on the tour. Macklemore challenged Kraft to match a $1-million donation to charities providing aid for Palestinian people. The sports mogul later claimed Sheeran had already asked him to match a $2-million donation.

He wrote: “Ed now plans to reach out to other venue owners and our goal is to continue to work together to build bridges.”
