Following a win at the Caribbean Music Awards, Cholita’s ‘Broken Promises’ EP makes Grammy consideration list.

It is among the 119 albums and EPs that have been submitted to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) for the 2027 Best Reggae Album category. The singer is upbeat that her debut project is under consideration to be among the nominees. The official nominees will be announced next month.

“It’s an amazing feeling to see your first body of work being recognised and to be on that list. Even if it isn’t nominated, it just shows that the work that I have put in, has not gone unnoticed,” said the Kingston-based singer. Broken Promises was released on June 26 via US-based independent label Mixpak Records. It has six tracks.

Cholita recently won the Best New Artiste (Reggae) award at the Caribbean Music Awards, which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. She expressed gratitude for the award and said the experience still felt “unbelievable”.

“Even just being nominated amongst so many incredibly talented artistes felt surreal, so to win the award is something I’m extremely appreciative of. I’m taking it as a huge encouragement to continue growing, evolving, getting better, and putting in the work with my music,” she said.

“I’m grateful for the recognition and for everyone who supported me along the way,” she added. But Cholita opined that this is just the beginning.

“I feel like I’m nowhere near where I ultimately want to be or where I envision Cholita becoming in the long run. So I see this award as motivation to keep working towards that. For me, it’s really about the journey, continuing to learn, grow, evolve, and become a better artiste. I’m excited about the process and about seeing where this path takes me,” she said.

She acknowledged that much work has been put in to highlight her brand over the past year.

“Honestly, it was a really fulfilling process because I learnt so much. This past year was about learning the ins and outs of making music, writing, recording, performing, and really understanding what it means to build myself as an artiste,” she said. “Writing was a completely new world for me. I’ve been singing in choir and doing theatre for a long time, but songwriting was something I was new to. So there was a lot of learning and developing that went into that.”
