Manley hit Quarrie for six

Norman Manley High continued their imperious march in Zone C of the ISSA Manning Cup competition after cruising to a dominant 6-0 win over Donald Quarrie High yesterday at Maxfield Park.
Norman Manley’s win was a classy display of teamwork as they registered six different goalscorers throughout their rout.
The goals came from Dujoni Saunches (9th minute), Demarco Bryan (17th), Ernando Henry (29th), Tequan Underhill (60th), Davine Dodd (78th) and Javonie Trusty (90th+2).
Norman Manley’s head coach Shane Gage was a delighted figure after the game and he praised his players for the result.
However, he believes there are still areas of improvements and said they had played mostly in patches rather than a consistent performance.
“As it relates to the execution of the plan today, I’ll say we’re about 70 per cent,” Gage admitted in his post-match interview.
“We are playing in good patches for the most part of the game but I still see areas where we need to work hard to be consistent.”
From the first whistle, it was clear Norman Manley were the better team and their early pressure paid off when Saunches cropped up to open the scoring.
They continued to press their advantage and doubled their lead through Bryan in the 17th minute before Henry made it 12 minutes later.
Norman Manley entered the half time break with a three-goal lead, but Underhill quickly made it four after the restart.
Dodd was on hand to drill home an effort from outside for the game’s fifth before Donald Quarrie were forced to make a substitute after goalkeeper Keefer James injured his wrist while making a save.
Trusty rounded off the goalscoring in time added with a lofted effort over the head of substitute goalkeeper Jaden Anderson who was caught off his line.
COMPETITIVE TEAM
Norman Manley’s victory follows two earlier wins in the zone and extended their perfect start to the competition.
They have now scored 18 goals in three games, only conceded once, and are firm favourites to advance to the second round.
Gage said their impressive start was no accident, but years of work done in developing a competitive programme.
“To be honest, I think we put in some work as it relates to the attacking aspect of it and we see it is paying off right now,” he explained.
Also in Zone C action, Edith Dalton James picked up their second win in three games when they thumped Pembroke Hall 6-0 in their encounter.
In Zone B, Hillel Academy picked up their first win of the season after they edged Penwood High 2-1 in a close encounter.
Bridgeport had a massive win in Zone A when they turned back Jonathan Grant 4-1.
