Be wary of 3-y-o maidens in Reggae 6’s fifth race

THIS Saturday’s Reggae 6 race to be wary of is the fifth for three-year-old maidens. A number of runners have returned with equipment changes and looking improved at exercise since their last outings.
BRAHMA BULL’s 13-1 upset win last Saturday resulted in a $108,886 Reggae 6 payout though there were four winning favourites, including STAR Sports’ banker, D HEAD CORNERSTONE, who won the opening event.
BRAHMA BULL’s gate-to-wire win in the third event upended Reggae 6 bets which had United States-bred MCMULLEN as a banker. The American appeared all set for his second win from four starts locally after chasing home fellow American PEPPER STEPPER at five furlongs round a week earlier.
MCMULLEN’s loss was made even more puzzling after PEPPER STEPPER outsprinted fellow American OF A REVOLUTION to land the Gerry Skelton Memorial Cup at five furlongs straight.
STAR Sports’ first-choice selection, WHISPERING MAGIC, also named as Outsider Of the Day, closed the Reggae 6 at odds of 7-2, significantly lower than the morning-line 6-1 advertised in the Track and Pools race form.
REGGAE 6 SNAPS:
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 4--6—2 – (4) Down in class. A length behind Rejected Raja among $700k claimers at 5f st. (6) Course-specialist. Returned as a winner off 11-month break. (2) Pressed speed at 6f on last.
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 1-5-7 – (1) Dismissed native non-winners of three races with disdain. (5) Beat Lockdown at trip April 19. Given too much to do from off pace on last. (7) Will have to try escaping on lead.
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 1-3-6 – (1) Taken off pace before closing for 2nd-best behind Khaleesi. (3) Exposed form in narrow loss to Royal Maverick at 9+25 yds. (6) More than 10 lts behind RoundtheTwist Aug 22.
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 8-1-7 – (8) Fillies’ royalty - 3rd in Guineas, 2nd in Oaks - among average colts and geldings. (1) Reports fresh. Spared rigours of Derby and St Leger. (7) Dangerous if settled on a clear lead.
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 9-7-2-3 – (9) Fourth in bang-up finish behind Fratellanza . (7) Four furlongs in 50.1 with WahAGwaan at exercise. (2) Six furlongs in 1:17.0 at exercise. (3) Note visor on and 49.4 at exercise.
JIMMIE’S TIPS: 6-3-5 – (6) Bred-to-stay foreigner making local debut. Sharp in mile gallops at exercise, 1:42.3. (3) Lost interest after being bumped at clubhouse turn. (5) Foreigner looking improved at exercise.
