Munro stay perfect in daCosta Cup

MUNRO College continued their impressive unbeaten run, as Izion Frazer and Kajaye Williams fired them to a 2-0 victory over B.B. Coke High in their ISSA daCosta Cup Zone D preliminary-round football encounter at Munro College playing field yesterday.

In a highly anticipated clash, Frazer scored first, before Williams cemented the win to energise the home fans.

Munro are tied on 12 points, the same as Black River High, who have also recorded four wins. However, Munro are atop the zone by virtue of a superior goal difference. As for B. B Coke, they are tied on nine points, with three wins and one loss, the same as Lacovia High, who are ahead on goal difference.

Munro’s head coach, Everdean Scarlett, expressed wanting his team to maintain a high standard.

“I give God thanks for winning the game and for us getting three points,” he said. “But I didn’t think we played to our full potential. Nonetheless, we were better than B.B. Coke, and we walked away with victory.”

He added: “Any team that comes to Munro have to work hard for whatever they want, and we are not going to make it easy on any team that comes here. We plan to stick to what we say and make here a fortress where we win games.”

In another game, Lacovia High cruised past Belair 3-0 to remain competitive in the zone.

Ommoy Cunningham, Tyraun Bembridge and Enrique Samms scored in their school’s emphatic win.

Assistant coach Willard Douglas said the team executed the game plan.

“We didn’t want to leave Mandeville empty-handed, and that was the plan. We came for the three points and kept a clean sheet, and that objective was met,” said Douglas.

“The first half of the game was very rough for several reasons. The second half, we made a few adjustments, played our football and got the victory,” added Douglas.

Zone D’s Black River High remained perfect with a 3-0 win over Mt St Joseph Catholic. Black River are second in the standings behind Munro.

In high-scoring games, Lennon High humiliated Kellits High 15-1, Denbigh High hammered Tacius Golding 8-1, and St Mary crushed Iona High 8-0.

The Ben Francis KO competition will start on Friday, while the daCosta Cup’s preliminary round will resume on Tuesday.
